Additional Secretary Ms. Samia Saleem chaired an interactive session with the female officers/officials of Mines & Minerals Department (MMD). This was the first time in the history of MMD that such a session took place whereby lady officers were invited to share their ideas, issues and way forward to make MMD, an otherwise male dominated department , more gender inclusive. Additional Secretary emphasised on the need of creating synergy between women of different field formations under MMD for creative networking, troubleshooting and mentoring each other.
Samia Saleem, Additional Secretary directed the Deputy Secretary Administration to proactively monitor the facilities being provided to lady officers in field with special care towards provision of sanitation facilities, establishment of day care centers, provision of equal opportunities with regards to various trainings as well as necessary horizontal mobility within the department.
She also apprised the participants of the huge responsibility they owe to their gender for moving forward in their respective careers and making their contribution to the national economy.
Before the end of the meeting, the Additional Secretary remarked that she was impressed with the talented and hardworking female officers of the department consisting of engineers, GIS experts, accountants, business developers, programmers, clerks, computer operators, etc. It was committed that the department would strive to create a safe and enabling working environment for women to prosper in their careers thereby improving organisational efficiency on the whole.
