A meeting was held with Electric Inspector, Lahore Region to determine the role of Electric Inspector in the inspection of mines for ensuring safety of electric installations under Electricity Act 1911 and Electricity Rules 1937. Additional Secretary Mines Samia Saleem chaired the meeting. Deputy Secretary (Technical), Chief Inspector of Mines attended the meeting. The chair observed that safety of mine workers was a priority for the department. Every year a number of lives are lost because of electrocution. It was stressed to create interdepartmental linkages to make the inspection regime more effective to improve working conditions of mine workers.
