A meeting was held on Thursday, 08 October 2026, under the chairmanship of the Secretary, Mines and Minerals Department, regarding the revamping of the Punjab School of Mines, Katas and Training Mine, Katas. The Chief Inspector of Mines, Punjab, briefed the Chair regarding the functions and operations of both institutions, including their existing infrastructure, resources and areas requiring improvement.
Directions were issued to prepare a comprehensive proposal for the complete restructuring of both institutions after thoroughly examining all missing facilities and operational requirements. A team comprising Additional Secretary, Mines and Minerals Department and Deputy Secretary (Technical) was tasked with conducting a detailed assessment, with particular focus on exploring measures to make the institutions commercially viable and sustainable
