Education is right of every child, not just a privilege for some dominant parts of society. Keeping in view the importance of education, the Mines Labour Welfare Commissionerate has established eight schools, including two Higher Secondary Schools, to provide free education to the children of mine workers. These schools offer a comprehensive package that includes free uniform kits, books, notebooks, and bags, ensuring that all students have the necessary resources for their studies.
State-of-the-art school buildings are equipped with modern science labs, computer labs, spacious playgrounds, and other essential facilities to create a conducive learning environment. The schools boast highly qualified and trained staff dedicated to deliver quality education and nurturing the potential of every student. Through these initiatives, we are committed to ensure that every child has the opportunity to receive a foremost education, promoting equality and empowering future generations.
Apart from establishing schools in remote mining-concentrated areas, the Mines Labour Welfare Commissionerate also awards educational stipends to students who live in their native places, whether in or outside of Punjab, away from MLW schools. Since the majority of the mining labor is migratory and faces numerous challenges, including but not limited to confined economic resources, this Commissionerate provides financial support for miners' children's education in their hometowns. The rate of stipend for each class is as follows:
